How a lawyer video consultation works
You open the profile of the lawyer you have chosen and find their options there: a length, a name, a price with VAT included. You pick the one that suits you, then a slot in their real calendar. The slot stays yours for a few minutes while you pay, and the appointment then holds straight away: nobody approves it afterwards, and you wait for nothing. You get the confirmation by email with the file to drop into your calendar, then a reminder the day before and another an hour before.
A lawyer video consultation with nothing to install
The button to join becomes active five minutes before the hour, both from your account and from the confirmation email. You test your microphone and camera before going in. A lawyer video consultation asks you for no software, no third-party account, and it records nothing. If the conversation runs over, nobody cuts you off: whoever leaves the room first ends the consultation, for both of you.
Your documents, read before the appointment
Someone coming to talk about a notice to quit has that notice in front of them. Describing it out loud takes ten minutes they have paid for, and the lawyer answers from memory about a text they have not read. So you attach your documents at booking time: up to ten files of ten megabytes each. We encrypt them before we store them, our object store only ever sees an opaque blob, your lawyer is the only one who can open them, and they are deleted after the consultation.
The price is the firm's, and none of it stays with us
The lawyer decides what length they sell and what they charge, VAT included: they are dealing with a consumer, and a price excluding tax that climbs 21 % on the next screen is a prohibited practice. Your payment goes straight to their account, never to ours. The platform takes no commission on that fee, and the firm is the one that invoices you for it.
Cancelling a lawyer video consultation, and what you keep
More than 24 hours ahead, cancelling refunds you in full. Below that, you still owe the slot: the lawyer blocked it for you and can no longer resell it, as in any firm, and we say so before you pay rather than after. If the lawyer cancels, you get your money back however short the notice. You can also move the appointment once without paying again: only the time changes. After the conversation, the lawyer can leave an encrypted written summary in your account, and you can ask them to open a full case.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to install any software?
No. The room opens in your browser, on a computer or a phone, five minutes before the hour. You test your microphone and camera before going in, and there is no account to open anywhere but here. On an iPhone, you can also use the Avocat20min app, free on the App Store.
How much does a video consultation cost?
Whatever the lawyer shows on their profile, VAT included, for the length they sell. It therefore varies from firm to firm. You see it before you pay, and you pay nothing else: the platform takes no commission on that fee.
What happens if I have to cancel?
More than 24 hours before the appointment, you get everything back. Less than 24 hours before, the slot remains payable, because the lawyer blocked it for you and can no longer resell it. If the lawyer cancels, you get your money back in every case. You can also move the appointment once without paying again.
Is the consultation recorded?
No, nothing is recorded. What you tell the lawyer is covered by professional privilege, exactly as it would be at their office. If they leave a written summary afterwards, it is encrypted and only opens from your account.
Can I send documents before the appointment?
Yes, and nothing improves the conversation more. Up to ten files of ten megabytes, attached at booking time. We encrypt them, your lawyer alone reaches them, and they disappear after the lawyer video consultation.
How is this different from the 20-minute consultation?
They are two separate services. For the 20-minute consultation you describe your situation, you pay the platform a €20 connection fee, and we are the ones who look for an available lawyer: the 20 minutes on the phone are free. On video, you choose the lawyer, the option and the time yourself, and you pay their fee, on which we take nothing.
What if I would rather go to the office?
Some lawyers open the same calendar for an appointment in person. Their profile says so, with the address, and booking follows exactly the same path.
